Men have come to speak of revelation as long ago given and done, as if God were dead. It is the office of a true teacher to show us that God is, not was, that he speaketh, not spake...

The need was never greater of new revelation than now.

1991.

Hi.

I'm 24.

I was sitting in my Public Relations class yesterday when I sparked a conversation with a cute girl sitting next to me. We got to talking about life, roller-coasters, and orange juice among other things. This sparked another conversation halfway through class when she had mentioned she had never seen Home Alone. Anyone who knows me knows I love finding people who've never seen a classic film in time: Gone With the Wind, E.T., The Sixth Sense, Home Alone, etc...for some reason this sparks an odd sense of excitement within me, I'm not sure why. Kind of like someone who loves books is always in awe that I've never read Huck Finn or The Count Of Monte Cristo.

So I asked how she has grown up without ever seeing the lingering holiday classic. And she mentioned that the reason why was probably because it came out before she was born...which in reality really makes no sense; but never-the-less gave me a moment of panic. This girl was born in 1991. She graduated high school in 2009. I had lived 1/4 of my life by the time she was born. A fourth.

So just as a re-cap, let us evaluate a few happenings of the world when this child was born:

The Michigan court bars Dr. Jack Kevokian from assisting in suicides.
The Gulf War ends.
Pee-Wee Herman was arrested for bad things.
Beauty and the Beast was first animated movie nominated for Best Picture.
Miles Davis died.
Wayne Gretzky scored his 700th goal.
The last episode of Dallas aired.
The Oakland Hills firestorm killed 25 and destroyed 3469 homes and apartments, causing more than $2 billion in damage.
Magic Johnson announced he tested positive for AIDS, and then retired.
Sonny Bono was elected for the U.S. Congress.
Sonic the Hedgehog was released for Sega Video Games in America.
I was in the first grade.

So I'm not writing this to say that I feel old; I'm only 24. Shoot, I still feel like I'm 16 sometimes (but that's another blog entry for another day). But I am writing this to say that I feel like an old college student. I started school here in June 2003; a week after graduating high school. And even though I did take a 2 year break/detour to serve a mission, sometimes I wonder HOW AM I STILL HERE? But I love it. It's college. It's home #1.5. And coming up in the next year I hope to find official home #2.
