The one word that best describes the youth of my 4th week is PERSONALITY.
Woof! I'd never had so much sass and craziness go down so much in a week before. And that includes Freshman year in college with the Chapman Hall girls. Yikes. But nevertheless, it was a great week full of surprises.
I love Flagstaff. You get the Arizona weather without the monstrous heat. It's like a
forest. NAU is beautiful and tucked away behind the trees. It was a great experience working in Flagstaff.
But first off I have to tell you about my new friend Nate.
Here's a picture of us getting crazy with the youth at the dance (probably to a miley cyrus song). But anyway, Nate and I were counselors in Snowflake (week 2) and then we both came to Flagstaff. We became really good friends and were talking one night about how he goes to school in Tucson and is getting his Master's in blah blah blah.
I mentioned "Oh, I have a good friend who just got her Master's from there. Do you know a Carrie Vallejo (maiden
name Lujan)?" When I said her last name he said it at the exact same time and we quickly jolted and looked at each other in shock. NO WAY! It was hilarious, only because then I was said, "Wait, are you the Mormon she's told me about in all of her ethics classes?" He said yes. Then he said, "Wait, are you the Mormon who grew up with her?" And I said yes. It is a small world after all. (and to Carrie who will be reading this post shortly I am sure: Hi!).
Now about the week.
On Monday (June 21) I got super sick. I mean puking, stomach issues, temperature of 102: the whole shebang. EFY doesn't start until 1:15 on Monday and aaall morning I felt disgusting. I met my boys quickly and told them I was feeling sick and spend the rest of the day in bed. I felt bad but I'm no good to anyone feeling like junk. The health counselors brought me med's and took care of me and by Tuesday I was better and ready for business. So I got a late start so had to catch up quickly. But I did. And everything turned out great and it turned into a totally fun week. As shown in the following pictures.
Wednesday night is Game Night. Also known as EPIC. Game Night is not just an event. It's a state of mind. It's a verb. "Hey, are we gonna Game Night it tonight or what?" I mean, is the sheer EPICness of Game Night not apparent in the faces seen above?
These were my boys this week. And I'm proud of this picture (it was a miracle it happened, just let me tell you that. P.S. the 4th kid in the leather jacket is from Prundale). Great kids. They just had a minor obsession with my name. Everywhere we went, or every time I'd walk in the door they would chant (extremely loudly): "CRAIG! CRAIG! CRAIG! CRAIG! CRAIG! CRAIG!" over and over and over again. And then they put it to music, most notably the 20th Century Fox theme. I eventually had to limit it to only once per hour they were allowed to do this. Fail.
Joyously on the way to a class.
